Ich würde mal testen, ob das Local Dimming auch dann nicht funktioniert, wenn Du einen Film von einer externe Quelle abspielst über Blu-ray Player / Box / Stick.
Yup, dimming works fine with my Xbox that's the only external source I have currently. Only built-in apps with 8.1 files have issues, even on max dimming setting it dims about 50%. But it's only noticeable at night. The blacks on this TV are so good actually that during daylight can't really tell, even without dimming. I guess the 8.1 decoding pipeline does some weird stuff here, who knows.
Yesterday I discovered that JustPlayer doesn't have the stutter that Kodi has, interesting. I'll try sideloading some nightly builds, and fiddle with it a little more. I guess I'll figure it out eventually after wasting enough time 😀
EDIT (after further investigation):
NovaPlayer seems to play DoVi content correctly, including local dimming and smoothness. After turning on "Android frame timing (experimental)" the stutter is gone. It seems Nova uses Android's MediaCodec API directly, while Kodi uses its own internal ffmpeg-based video decoding pipeline. Now I'm not an expert on this but looks like the HDR metadata get confused somewhere along the way. Too bad I'm not a developer; this is really fascinating.
